30: Relating to Others

Though you know that human love does not fully satisfy, you are naturally tempted to turn to human faces to satisfy the deep needs of your heart. While some will reflect God’s gracious loving-kindness, others are ill-equipped to receive you. To the degree that you wish these to be other than they are, you will experience frustration. So you are lovingly releasing them to God. As God heals your heart, offering steadfast love and faithfulness, your relationships may shift. This is natural. Aware that others are no better and no worse than you, you offer them the grace that God has shown you. Imitating Jesus, you accept others as they are and not as they should be. As you grow emotionally and spiritually, as you become emotionally healthy, you are more fully equipped to relate well to others.
