27: Facing Your Longings & Temptations

You long to be seen, heard, known, and loved. Of course. And you naturally prefer comfort over distress. This is why, when you’ve felt undone, you’ve been tempted to turn to soothing substitutes—comforts, habits, people—that do not truly satisfy. But you know that the deepest needs of your heart are most fully satisfied by the one whose love does not fail. So you are learning to receive what God provides by releasing your longings and temptations to the One who can be trusted. When you notice you are sinking, by turning to counterfeit comforts, you can self-correct and return to the solid place. Refusing what does not satisfy, you choose to tolerate discomfort by making small choices for life that truly is life. Because Christ lives in you, you can bear what is.
