23: Rejecting the Voice That Lies

Vying for your attention and allegiance, the voice that lies distorts what is true about God, about you, and about others. This is the voice that tempted Eve in the garden and Jesus in the wilderness, warping reality by twisting what is true. Yet Jesus rejected the devil’s lie by trusting in God’s love and faithfulness. With the Father’s voice still echoing in his heart and mind from his baptism—“This is my Son, the beloved, with whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:17)—Jesus refused the deceiver’s crooked logic. In each moment, the Spirit is helping you to recognize, trust, and obey the voice that Jesus trusted. In rejecting the voice that lies, you live from the solid place.
