21: Entrusting Others to God

You suffer when you wish those around you to be other than they are. But as you learn to accept others, as they are and not as they should be, you experience palpable relief. This liberating choice is available to you in each moment. When you notice a niggling destructive thought—“It’s his fault I’m suffering,” “What she did is unforgivable,” or “He’s to blame”—you choose life as you consciously release the offender, real or imagined. This is not an endorsement of the other’s behavior; it is a decision to trust God with what is. As you lovingly release individuals who have not cared for you in the past, or are ill-equipped to care for you now, you choose to live from the solid place.
